Prevalence and Clinical Features of Thalassemia Minor Cases

Background: Thalassemia, the most common heterogeneous single gene disorder causing sever genetic health problem in world. In 1932 George and William gave it name thalassemia derived from Greek words (“thallassa: mean sea) (“aima: blood). The research was conducted on minor patients North Waziristan some selected areas of Peshawar Khyber pakhtunkhwa. Methods: During this survey 100 were interviewed belonging to different castes. It observed that majority age group 1-10 years both male asn females. Different ethnic groups such as Yousafzai, Halimzai, Dawar, Wazir, Noor khel, Musazai, Saidan, Miserkhal, Afridi, Miagan, Afghan. Results: belonged rural area (62.4 %) while 36.6% reported urban area. maximum number lower class which 47% followed by middle (35%) rich people (18%). parents 64 cousin 36 had marriage out family. birth abnormalities also recorded abortion (30%), delay (23%), still (13%) premature (17%). study moderate body status (54.5%) Interestingly ratio obese very low. While thin 39.4%. physical found included eye, skin, ear, mental bone joint abnormalities. having have an average HB level 9.45 g/dl those 41-60 11.58 g/dl. infections eye infection (39%), GIT (20%), Lung infection, Skin (16%), UTI (7%) Ear (2%). Conclusion: This provides insight mechanism transmission family suggest social awareness about disadvantages interfamilial marriages.
